Kenya’s Opposition leaders, led by the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua and Wiper Patriotic Front’s Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, have rubbished President William Ruto’s proposed new development charter as “wishful thinking.”

The United Alternative Government co-principals instead accuse President Ruto’s administration of sabotaging the full implementation of the Vision 2030 agenda through rampant corruption and wastage in public service.

 

Speaking while hosting a delegation from Narok town at his Wamunyoro home in Mathira, Nyeri County on Friday, Gachagua intensified his criticism of President Ruto’s proposal for a new development charter, which is expected to be birthed through a national conversation.

 

The former Deputy President dismissed the Kenya Kwanza administration’s proposal for transformation as delusional, accusing his former boss of failing to deliver on his 2022 election promises to Kenyans.

 

“What moral authority does he have to lead any economic and development agenda while his administration has failed?” Posed Gachagua.

 

The DCP party leader also dismissed President Ruto’s planned national conversation on August 12, 2026, aimed at launching the country’s bid for first-world economic status, describing it as wishful thinking that will not produce results.

 

“How can the same person in power who failed to deliver his promises to Kenyans now purport to deliver?” Gachagua added.

 

Speaking in Yatta, Machakos County, during the launch of a church empowerment for community engagement programme by Bishop Titus and Agnes Masika, Kalonzo termed President Ruto’s push for a new development charter as pointless.

 

 

“It’s daylight propaganda… nothing substantial will come out of it… Wakenya sio wajinga,” he stated.

 

The views were also shared by presidential hopeful and United Green Movement (UGM) party leader David Maraga.

 

“It’s all lies and wishful thinking… he himself doesn’t uphold the Constitution,” noted Maraga.

 

Jubilee Deputy Party Leader Fred Matiang’i, through a statement on social media, stated, that; “President William Ruto’s proposal to launch a national conversation on Kenya’s development post-Vision 2030 is a clear case of misplaced priorities.”

“This is only meant to divert our attention from Ruto’s gross violations of the Constitution and leadership failures…”
