Tundu Lissu in good spirit as his treason case continues in court

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – 10 August 2026 – CHADEMA Chairman, Tundu Lissu, is expected to continue cross-examining the Prosecution’s 16th witness, ACP Amini Mahamba, tomorrow, 11 August 2026, in the treason case he is facing.

During today’s 10th Aug 2026 proceedings, Lissu said he has 54 areas he intends to question the witness on, claiming there are discrepancies between the evidence he gave in court and his earlier statements. The case is ongoing at the High Court, Dar es Salaam.

Among the areas he raised are the witness’s education and experience within the Tanzania Police Force, how he was promoted through the ranks, and some of the statements he had previously written.

During questioning, Lissu also requested that the witness’s statements be admitted into evidence. After a brief argument, the Court admitted the statements on Lissu’s side.

Lissu went on to question the witness about some of the information he claimed was included in his court testimony, but which did not appear in his earlier statements.

The case has been adjourned until 9:00 AM tomorrow, when Lissu will resume cross-examining ACP Mahamba.

Lissu is facing one count of treason contrary to Section 39(2)(d) of the Penal Code, relating to remarks he allegedly made about an intention to prevent the holding of the 2025 General Election.
