Former Attorney General Justin Muturi has alleged that an attack targeting opposition leaders during a rally in Garissa amounted to an attempted assassination.

Muturi, the party leader of Democratic Party, made the allegation after chaos disrupted the gathering attended by Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka, former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa and other opposition leaders.
Muturi, who also served as Public Service Cabinet Secretary in the Kenya Kwanza administration, warned that the incident could deepen political divisions and create fear among Kenyans.
“It amounts to an attempted assassination and risks balkanising the nation and creating fear among citizens,” he said.
The former CS called on the Inspector General of Police to immediately launch a thorough investigation, identify those involved and ensure that anyone found culpable is arrested and brought to justice.
His remarks came against the backdrop of another chaotic political gathering on Saturday, September 12, where several vehicles were burnt during a UDA meeting at Nembure Stadium in Manyatta Constituency, Embu County, attended by deputy president Kithure Kindiki.
