The Vice-Chairman of CHADEMA, John Heche, has appealed to the President of Kenya, William Ruto, and his government to help ensure that human rights activist and opposition politician from Tanzania, Twaha Mwaipaya, is found alive and safe, after he was reported to have been abducted in Kenya.
In a post published on his X social media page, Heche said they have tried all night to contact the relevant authorities in Kenya to get information about Mwaipaya’s whereabouts.
Mwaipaya is a political activist who is a member of CHADEMA, having served the party at various levels, including the party’s Youth Council (BAVICHA).
He has been living in exile in Kenya after leaving Tanzania, with reports from human rights activists linking his departure to claims of threats and acts of cruelty in Tanzania.
According to a statement released by Amnesty International Kenya, Mwaipaya was reported to have been abducted on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at around 2:00 PM in the Kamulu area, Machakos County, near the capital city of Nairobi.
The statement explains that he was travelling by taxi to visit his friends when unknown people who were in three vehicles, including a Toyota Land Cruiser Hardtop, picked him up.
Amnesty International has urged the Kenyan authorities to quickly investigate the incident, establish his whereabouts and ensure his safety.
Heche has said he does not believe that the Kenyan government has a reason to abduct Mwaipaya, but he has expressed his concern about the possibility of people entering another country and taking a person without help or cooperation from people in authority in that country.
He has emphasized that if it is proven that the abduction took place within the borders of Kenya, the incident will be a stain on the government of that country, noting that a person who flees to that country seeking refuge should be protected.
In that post, Heche has also claimed that acts of murder, abduction, and silencing of people who oppose evil have been continuing in Tanzania.
He has urged Tanzanians not to allow that situation to continue
