LSK Demands Investigation into Abduction and Murder of MCA Yussuf Hussein Ahmed

“We demand an immediate, thorough, and independent investigation into the abduction and murder of Hon. Yussuf Hussein Ahmed. We urge the Director of Public Prosecutions to exercise his powers under Article 157(4) of the Constitution and direct the Inspector General of Police to urgently conduct investigations to apprehend and prosecute all those involved in this heinous crime,” said LSK President Faith Odhiambo.

While condemning the incident, the LSK pledged to monitor the case closely to ensure that justice is pursued and served

“The LSK strongly condemns this extrajudicial killing, which not only violates the rule of law but also instils fear and insecurity in the public. The perpetrators must be brought to justice without delay to restore confidence in our justice system,” she said

Reports from Ahmed’s family say unknown assailants in two unmarked Land Cruiser Prados abducted Ahmed on Friday, September 13, 2024, around 8:00 p.m. along Enterprise Road in Nairobi who forcibly removed him from his taxi and taken to an unknown location.

The family immediately reported his missing to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) at Makadara Police Station, which lasted for one month before his mutilated body was discovered three days ago.

According to witnesses, the body showed signs of severe torture, extensive burns, and brutal beating.

It is alleged that Yussuf Hussein Ahmed, was under investigation for alleged involvement in drug and human trafficking. He was linked to a cartel operating in Ethiopia, which was also connected to terror groups in the region.

His abduction and subsequent murder have raised significant concerns, and the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) is demanding a thorough investigation into the case

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Hon. Ahmed. We stand in solidarity with them and the people of Wajir County during this difficult time. May his memory inspire renewed vigilance in the fight for justice and the rule of law in Kenya,” the LSK state

The High Court had ordered the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to give protection to the key witness in a case filed on the abduction of the MCA pending a formal application for witness protection.

The court had also ordered the DPP and the DCI to either produce Ahmed in court or provide an explanation for his absence if he was in custody, which was in vein.

The LSK later on accused the DPP and DCI for the failure to comply with the order to produce the MCA and was preparing to file contempt of court proceedings when news of his tragic death broke.
