With less than a week to Tanzania’s general election, pressure is mounting over the disappearance of opposition figures and growing silence from President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who continues with her nationwide campaign trail.

In recent elections, particularly the presidential results, the ruling party, CCM, has consistently won with a landslide, raising questions about the authenticity of Tanzania’s election management.
The National Identification System (NIDA) was integrated with the electoral commission to create a mechanism allowing CCM to pre-determine votes before elections.
This move follows recent developments regarding Polepole, who had previously resigned from his diplomatic position earlier this month, citing human rights violations under the current government.
CCM did not follow due process in selecting a presidential candidate.
Polepole revealed that he could no longer serve under the current leadership due to what he described as a deterioration in political ethics, a disregard for citizens’ rights and the decline in integrity within the government.
