Falling shrapnel killed one man and seriously wounded another in central Israel on Monday, first responders said, as blasts rocked the area after the military said missiles were fired from Iran.
Iran vowed on Thursday to defend itself against any foreign threat, after US President Donald Trump said he would “watch it and see” about military action over the crackdown on protesters.
Police said the officers had been on routine patrol when they came under fire. Iranian media published an image of a bullet-riddled police pickup with bodies lying on the ground nearby.
It was not immediately clear what caused the explosion but the port’s customs office said it likely resulted from a fire that broke out at the hazardous and chemical materials storage depot.
Several containers exploded Saturday at a key Iranian port, authorities said, causing a major blast and fire, and leaving several people injured.
Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said the meeting with the International Atomic Energy Agency was “part of our ongoing engagement with the agency”.
