The Tanzania Police Force has announced that it will resume receiving notices from organisers of public meetings, citing an improvement in the country’s security situation.

In a statement released from Police Headquarters in Dodoma, Police Spokesperson David Misime said the decision follows recent security operations that disrupted alleged plans to commit unlawful acts aimed at disturbing public order.

According to the police, investigations uncovered alleged plots to block roads, set fire to schools to instil fear, vandalise transformers belonging to the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (Tanesco), and attack police officers.

The force further alleged that the activities were being coordinated through meetings involving children and young people, door-to-door mobilisation, and neighbourhood groups.

Police said several suspects have been arrested in connection with the alleged plans. Some have already been charged in court, while investigations into the matter are ongoing.

The police thanked members of the public for providing information to security agencies and for refusing to participate in the alleged activities.

The force reminded organisers of public meetings to continue submitting notices to District Police Commanders as required by law. Citizens were also urged to report any suspected criminal activities to the relevant authorities.
