Israel will allow a “temporary” delivery of aid through its border with the northern Gaza Strip, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office announced on Friday.

The government statement was issued a few hours after a warning from US President Joe Biden.

Biden warned Israel against a sharp change in its policy on the Gaza war on Thursday amid uncertainty between the US and Benjamin Netanyahu’s administration and growing domestic pressure in a US election year.

Biden has stood firmly behind Israel since the October 7 Hamas attacks, and his criticism of civilian deaths in Gaza has not stopped Washington from supplying military equipment to its key ally.

In a 30-minute conversation with Netanyahu after Israeli airstrikes killed seven aid workers in Gaza from the US-based aid organization World Central Kitchen, Biden for the first time, Biden “made it clear that the policy of the United States on Gaza will be determined by its assessment of Israel’s immediate action” to end the killings and dire humanitarian conditions, the White House said.
