Lissu, Mbowe and other Chadema Leaders freed on personal bond

Tanzania Police force has confirmed that some of those leaders arrested were interrogated and returned to the regions where they came from.

Speaking on Monday night in Mbeya town, The commissioner of operations and training, Mr. Awadhi Juma, said some leaders who failed to meet the bail conditions or had more than one criminal offense have not been released.

 

“The police have arrested about 145 supporters of the Chadema party, including the leaders of the party. About 520 people among them leaders and supporters of the Chadema party were arrested and some were released on bail,” Awadhi Juma added.

Chadema national chairman Freeman Mbowe, vice chairman Tundu Lissu, and general secretary John Mnyika are among those arrested at Songwe airport in Mbeya region for participating in a banned conference.

Chadema’s Secretary General John Mrema has confirmed the release of Mbowe, Lissu.

“The main leaders of Chadema @freemanmbowetz @TunduALissu @jjmnyika @John_Pambalu have been returned to Dar es Salaam by the Police and have bailed themselves out!” There are reports of some leaders of Bavicha continuing to be held by the Mbeya Police Force! We will give information later” said Mrema in his X account

However, many of the young people are still being held by the police force for allegedly failing to provide bail
