Mwabukusi presents Tundu Lissu’s case to president Samia Suluhu

President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, met and held talks with the President of the Tanganyika Law Society (TLS), Boniface Mwabukusi, on August 27, 2025, at State House Chamwino in Dodoma.

The talks covered a wide range of issues related to the country’s legal sector, including the role of lawyers in promoting democracy, the rule of law, and the rights of citizens.

Among the issues the two discussed was Tundu Lissu’s case, where President Samia Suluhu has promised to look into it, without interfering with court proceedings.

Mwabukusi also highlighted to the president the Rights of Participation in Elections that focus on the rights of citizens, free participation of candidates, and the removal of technical barriers that could deprive citizens and candidates of their democratic rights.

” I urged for reforms that will guarantee free, fair, and participatory elections, so that citizens can get the leaders they want through the ballot box without tricks or illegal barriers, and eliminate the challenge of cutting off candidates or blocking Agents.” Said Mwabukusi
