Public Viewing of Raila Odinga’s Body Moved to Kasarani as Crowds Overwhelm Original Plan

Authorities have moved the public viewing of Raila Odinga’s body to the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, after large crowds made it impossible to follow the initial plan to proceed via Lee Funeral Home and Parliament Buildings.

Security teams diverted the motorcade via Outering Road as mourners surged along JKIA, Mombasa Road and into the CBD. Officials say dignitaries will view first at Kasarani before doors open to the public, with all logistics now coordinated from the stadium.

The adjustment comes amid a state funeral programme that includes a national service at Nyayo Stadium on Friday, public viewing in Kisumu on Saturday, and final rites in Bondo, Siaya County, on Sunday. The family also indicated that Raila wished to be laid to rest within 72 hours of his passing.

Thousands continued to stream into the capital through Thursday, many wearing orange and carrying portraits, as the city shifted to accommodate the new viewing venue and ensure orderly access for mourners.
