The family of Alute Mughwai Lissu, brother of the CHADEMA chairperson Tundu Lissu, has said that the burial of their kin will take place after November 6, 2026, the day the judgment in the treason case facing their brother is expected to be delivered.

The decision has been reached to enable family members to travel to Dar es Salaam and attend the hearing of the judgment to be delivered by the High Court of Tanzania, Dar es Salaam Sub-Registry.

Speaking about the decision, Dr. Vincent, one of the family members, said they have agreed to postpone the burial so that the family can be together during the hearing of Tundu Lissu’s case.

“We have planned that brother Alute’s burial will be in Singida. We expect to push the burial forward so that on Friday (November 6, 2026), family members can be in Dar es Salaam to attend the judgment of our brother Tundu’s case,” said Dr. Vincent.

Alute died on Saturday night after a long illness. In his final days, he had been admitted to Selian Hospital in Arusha, with his condition said to have worsened starting two days before his death.

His burial is expected to take place in Mahambe Village, Ikungi District, in Singida Region, after family members attend the reading of the judgment in Tundu Lissu’s case.

Tundu Lissu has been in custody since April 9, 2025, when he was arrested in Mbinga town, Ruvuma Region, and charged with treason linked to statements he allegedly made about the general election.

The judgment in the case is expected to be read on November 6, 2026, at the High Court of Tanzania, Dar es Salaam Sub-Registry, after the stages of hearing evidence and final submissions from both sides were completed.
