NAIROBI, June 26, 2026 — The Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) is demanding the immediate release of six people it says remain missing more than 24 hours after being violently arrested at Parliament during yesterday’s June 25 commemoration.
In a statement released Thursday, KHRC said police carried out arbitrary arrests at Parliament and have not produced the six men in court, in violation of Article 49 of Kenya’s Constitution which requires suspects to be presented before a court within 24 hours of arrest.

KHRC named the six as: Davis Lichuma, Elisha Alam, Collins Ochieng, Frederick Odhiambo Ojiro, Muteti Mulinge, and Michael Ngige ‘Kenyatta’.
Search across Nairobi police stations
According to KHRC, lawyers have spent the last day searching for the men at nine police stations: Central, Kamukunji, Pangani, Muthaiga, Kilimani, Parklands, Parliament, KICC, and Satellite on Naivasha Road. The commission says none of the stations had records of the six in custody and their whereabouts remain unknown.
“Police arbitrarily arrested our comrades yesterday during the June 25 commemoration. Their whereabouts are currently unknown. We demand their immediate and unconditional release,” KHRC said, using the hashtag #FreeOurComrades.
Legal concerns
The June 25 commemoration marks one year since the 2024 anti-Finance Bill protests. KHRC says the failure to present the six in court amounts to an enforced disappearance and violates constitutional and international human rights obligations.
The commission has called on police and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to produce the men in court immediately or release them unconditionally.
