Compaore is accused of masterminding the assassination of revolutionary leader Thomas Sankara.
“Seven thousand Burkinabes have arrived in… Ivory Coast since May last year,” UNHCR spokesman Boris Cheshirkov said.
The junta’s leader Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba has in the past week been in talks with international organisations.
Fourteen defendants are on trial, two of them in absentia, including former Burkina Faso President Blaise Compaore.
ECOWAS last week suspended Burkina Faso over the latest coup.
