Western diplomatic missions in Tanzania have paid tribute to victims of the deadly violence that followed the October 29, 2025, elections, as families and communities continue to mourn those who lost their lives.

In separate statements marking the first anniversary of the violence, the British High Commission in Dar es Salaam, the United States Embassy and the Norwegian Embassy remembered the victims and expressed solidarity with bereaved families.

The British High Commission said it was remembering those who tragically lost their lives during the election-related violence, extending condolences to the families of all those affected.

“Our Condolences goes out to families of everyone affected.” Said the statement.

The mission reaffirmed the United Kingdom’s commitment to supporting a peaceful, prosperous and united future for all Tanzanians.

Meanwhile, the United States Embassy in Tanzania recalled the devastating impact of the violence, saying many Tanzanians had died, leaving families and communities across the country in mourning.

The embassy also disclosed that the wife of one of its employees was shot and killed while travelling home from the market during the violence.

In remembrance of the victims, members of the embassy community gathered for a moment of silence to honour those who died and stand in solidarity with people who continue to grieve and seek answers.

The Norwegian Embassy in Tanzania also paid tribute to those killed during the election violence on October 29, 2025, and in the days that followed.

The embassy extended its thoughts to the victims’ families, friends and communities affected by the tragedy.

The statements come as Tanzania marks one year since the disputed election period was overshadowed by deadly violence, leaving lasting scars on affected families and communities.
