The High Court in Manyara has overturned the Registrar’s decision that had blocked CHADEMA’s state subsidy and refused to recognize its Secretary General and five Central Committee members. The ruling restores both the party’s leadership and funding, although CHADEMA is still barred from the presidential race.
ACT Wazalendo has rejected the ruling, calling it interference in the election process. Party Secretary General Ado Shaibu said Mpina had already fulfilled all requirements, including picking nomination forms, securing sponsors and swearing before court.
Analysts say her experience on the world stage could help reposition CCM as it seeks to appeal not only to Tanzanian voters but also to the wider international community.
“Let us make sure justice is done at every stage, because where there is justice, God’s blessings follow. Our message to INEC is this, stand firm and do justice to all,” President Samia said.
According to CHADEMA, elections cannot be free or fair without first carrying out Electoral Reforms to strengthen the Zanzibar Electoral Commission (ZEC) and restore public trust.
