The Saba Saba protests are held each year to commemorate the historic events of July 7th 1990, when Kenyans took to the streets demanding free elections and the introduction of multi-party democracy.

Kinyagia, known for his digital activism and association with the Gen Z protest movement, had been sought by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over unspecified allegations.
