Over eight months after being expelled from social media for his role in inciting the January 6th Capitol insurrection, former U.S President Donald Trump now says he plans to launch a new media company with its own social media platform.

“We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence on Twitter, yet your favorite American President has been silenced…” he said in a statement.

In the latest push to reclaim his internet dominance after he was banned from Twitter and Facebook in the wake of the violent Capitol insurrection, he on Wednesday said he was launching the Trump Media & Technology Group and its “TRUTH Social” app meant to create a rival to the Big Tech companies that have shut him out.

“I created TRUTH Social and TMTG to stand up to the tyranny of Big Tech…” Trump said.

The “Truth Social” is expected to begin its beta launch for “invited guests” next month, and is already available for pre-order in Apple’s App Store; a nationwide rollout is also planned for early next year. In a press release, the new venture announced it had been created through a merger with Digital World Acquisition Corp. and said it seeks to become a publicly listed company.

Trump has spoken about launching his own social media site ever since he was barred from Twitter and Facebook. An earlier effort to launch a blog on his existing website was abandoned after the page drew dismal views. In a release, the new venture announced it had been created through a merger with Digital World Acquisition Corp., and said it seeks to become a publicly listed company.
