Jerotich Seii is a fearless and vocal human rights defender. A mother of six children, Jerotich is someone who believes in standing up for the voiceless people when systems fail them.

Family Roots and Influence
Family holds a central place in Jerotich’s life. Raised under the watchful eye of her educated, disciplined, and loving mother, Jerotich’s character was shaped by her parents’ encouragement to break free from traditional gender roles. Her mother’s journey into politics, challenging the patriarchal norms of her time, was a pivotal moment that inspired Jerotich’s own activism.


Work Experience
With over 22 years of experience, Jerotich has worked in different areas like migration, helping refugees, and humanitarian work in Africa. She’s held various roles in different organizations, both local and international.

Becoming an Active Citizen
Jerotich refers to herself as an active citizen, emphasizing the need for consistent vigilance and action against injustices. She’s been standing up for citizen rights since her university days. Her concerns about electricity issues led her to start the #SwitchOffKPLC campaign in 2018, pushing for fair treatment for consumers.


Challenging Injustices
Through the #SwitchOffKPLC campaign that was initiated in 2018, Jerotich highlighted problems with the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC). This campaign led to a petition in 2018, showing her dedication to justice.

Linda Katiba and Constitutional Defense
Jerotich’s involvement with Linda Katiba, a movement aimed at protecting Kenya’s constitution, was a significant milestone. She played a big role in challenging the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), even though her father was on the BBI team. Despite political differences within her family, Jerotich remains steadfast in her commitment to defending Kenya’s constitution.


Empowering Women in Leadership
Jerotich believes that women are not lacking in leadership abilities; its societal attitudes that constrain them. Drawing inspiration from great leaders like Wangari Maathai and Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, she advocates for women to break free from societal boxes and boldly step into leadership roles.


What’s Next for Jerotich?
Jerotich remains committed to her political ambitions following her participation in the 2022 Senate race for Elgeyo Marakwet. While she didn’t secure the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party nomination on November 26, she earned 8,540 votes, placing fourth in the competitive election. Additionally, she continues to focus on energy justice and amplifying people’s voices. She encourages everyone to speak up and stand for what’s right.
